Right now, the city that’s known as the “desert version of Miami’s South Beach” offers a number of choices of lodging in Scottsdale   for the environmentally friendly traveler.

iStayGreen.org, the Internet’s first resource for finding and booking eco-friendly hotels motels has listed 10 accommodations in the city of Scottsdale as “Green” because of the eco initiatives they have in-place. The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort, Scottsdale Camelback Resort, and Hotel Valley Ho have all acquired a 3 Green Eco-Leaf Rating awarded by iStayGreen. The Green Eco-Leaf Rating ranges from 1 to 5, with a 5 Green Eco-Leaf Rating earned by the greenest resorts.

While looking environmentally friendly resort hotels there are numerous distinct approaches that properties assume. At present we are all familiar with the common place linen reuse programs. By leaving your towels on the rack or placing a card on your bed, or inserting a special door hanger, the housekeeping staff is instructed by you not replace your towels and sheets. By reusing your linens your saving both water and electricity and reducing the quantity of chemicals entering our waste water. Numerous hotels in Scottsdale have also implemented the 3 R’s – Reduce – Reuse – Recycle.  Hotels in Scottsdale also are investing in energy saving CFL – compact fluorescent light bulbs and LED – light emitting diode bulbs. Scottsdale hotels that have implemented these programs have discovered that not only are they doing something valuable for our environment but the properties are also improving their profits.

Organizations like USGBC – United States Green Building Council offer the LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design that focuses on building and design. Other enterprises like Green Globe and Green Key are targeted on operations and sustainability. Various states even present their own “Green Certification” syllabus; however currently Arizona does not. The most practical rating for the consumer is iStayGreen’s Green Eco-Leaf rating because it not only takes into factor operational  environmental considerations but also the several certifications achieved by the property.

Tourism is Arizona’s foremost industries and in Scottsdale employs 40% of the workforce. It’s since Scottsdale has much to proffer. Annually hosting the TPC – Tournament Players Club golf event Scottsdale is recognized for its various incredible desert golf resorts. Car collector enthusiasts congregate in  Scottsdale take part in the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction from which classic cars are sold for prices into the millions. The Mayo Clinic and Scottsdale art galleries and museums, Scottsdale Spa Resorts, fashionable shopping, and trendy night life are but a a small number of further reasons why Scottsdale is such a popular destination.

If you’re coming to play a few rounds of golf at one of Scottsdale’s golf resorts or planning a last minute getaway to an all inclusive Scottsdale resort . . . do the environment good and reserve at an “Green” Scottsdale hotel. Three other Green Eco-Leaf properties comprise the The Phoenician Scottsdale, Comfort Inn Scottsdale, and Scottsdale Thunderbird Suites that have all earned a 2 Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Perform your share towards insuring a sustainable future by booking an environmentally friendly hotel when you take a trip.

Brighton Decides to Go a Bit Greener

Posted on October 29th, 2009

Brighton has just announced that it is going to install 20 roadside charging stations for electric vehicles. This is part of a big project to try and make Brighton a more Zero-emission city.

It is worth considering that maybe some people who own electric vehicles think they are bigger and better than the rest of us? Well if you watched a recent episode of South Park it would certainly seem so. The South Park characters who bought an electric car suddenly seemed to think they were better than the people without the car.

Of course, this was all just craziness put there to annoy the people of Chicago (where a lot of the episode was based) as well as to wind up everyone who owns an electric vehicle.

However is the answer to the worlds pollution actually in these cars or does it cause more hassle than good? Well in actual fact there is a lot of unused electric at night as the power stations cannot just shut down for twelve hours so without building anymore stations we could power millions of electric cars at no extra cost to the environment. If we should have to build more power plants, we would hope that they will be cleaner plants. It also works out that the price per mile is a lot more economical for an electric vehicle than it is for gas vehicle. The truth is it is all to do with efficiency as gasoline cars are 25% efficient whereas electric are around 95% meaning that a mile on electric costs a penny and a mile on gas costs around 15 cents.

So if you are about to buy a new BMW or buy a new Mercedes you should hold off and wait until an electric car comes your way. Whether it is used cars for sale there is sure to be an eventual upgrade for a car to help take down your C02 emissions.

Your Options To Use Solar Panels In Your Home

Posted on October 28th, 2009

For years now, scientists have been developing technical ways of converting solar energy into power and enthusiasts have developed solar collection systems to use to heat our homes. Free solar energy collection systems may seem very recent to most of us but enthusiastic people have been doing this for years.

The use of solar panels has moved on from the laboratory and the enthusiasts home to become a regular alternative to using energy from the utility supplier. To get solar energy we have two alternative types of solar panel for either generating electricity from sunlight or collecting solar thermal energy from the sun.

By using a heat exchanger you can transfer energy collected by solar heat collectors to your hot water system or to heat your home. To convert solar energy into electricity we need to use photovoltaic cell panels which are able to convert sunlight into electrical power

If you are a handyman, or woman, you should be able to construct a solar heat collector at home using various different materials. The most common type of solar collector has a reflector that reflects the heat of the sun onto a water pipe which transfers the heat through a heat exchanger into you home hot water system

Some people use an old heating radiator working in reverse as a solar collector connected to your home heating installation. Heating of your hot water is done through transferring the solar energy from the radiator to a heat exchanger. You can use simple pipes and reflectors to collect more heat from the sun and various designs are used successfully

By fitting photovoltaic solar cell panels on your roof you can use this other type of solar panel to provide free electricity. Do not be tempted to make the electrical connections to your home wiring and instead get an experienced solar power installation electrical engineer to make the connections.

With solar panels for your home installed they will continue to produce free energy for many years with little maintenance required. Have your solar panel installation checked for any faults once each year but the majority of solar systems are very reliable and will continue to work and save on energy costs for many years without any problems.

The Washing Machines Future

Posted on October 28th, 2009

Is the world changing for the better, because it is really changing? There are so many people out there that seem to be interested in saving money by going a bit greener which is why these washing machines will sell. This isn’t just for the home either; many companies are looking for greener commercial washing machine and commercial dishwashers.

So is there anything on the way for the washing machine or is it set to be replaced by something new and better? It looks like washing machines are going to be getting a big update in 2030 to make them a lot greener. Apparently it will become the norm to have an ultrasonic washing machine. Ultrasonic machine, what on earth is that I hear you say?

Well apparently they run with nearly no water and the only part water is needed is at the beginning. Now usually it takes a lot of water power to actually get all of the detergent off of the clothes which is why water is used. These futuristic ultrasonic machines will actually fire sound waves out at the clothes and tear the detergant away from the clothes which in turn rakes the dirt along with it. It is unclear if this method is going to be suitable for all types of clothes or just the ones that can survive a bit of a beating.

This idea first came into play in the 80s but was laughed at for being stupid. However with energy prices soaring through the roof and the worlds resources looking very thing, companies are looking for solutions like this to have in their commercial laundry equipment.

Experts are also saying that these machiens will be able to power other applicances when they are on like the dishwasher, the shower is also going to be powered by rainwater. The water we use today is technically recycled its just we have a system in which the water is cleansed before it reaches the home?

Has the world has gone mad or this will actually work?

Portable and Flexible Solar Panels – 6 Advantages

Posted on October 28th, 2009

There are several benefits of flexible and portable solar panels. This articles will focus on only 6 benefits.

1. Solar Power is a Stable Source of Alternative Energy: These panels are powered by the sun’s energy through photovoltaics. While it is possible to run out of fossil fuels, the sun’s energy will be around for a long time to come.

2. Portable: Until recently solar panels have had their limitations. They were big and bulky. Because of better technology and demand, many designs have been created to produce solar panels that are flexible and portable. Portable and flexible solar panels can be easily layed out flat on the ground or roof of your car to bring power to cell phones and ipods and then rolled up to easily fit in your backpack.

3. Waterproof: When they were first developed, the stability of the solar panels were such that they had to be protected by a special casing which severely limited their capabilities. A technology called thin-film has provided solar cells to be used in many different ways. You can easily bring a flexible or portable solar panel on a boat to conveniently power your cell phones and Ipod.

4. Variety of Uses: A flexible solar panel can be used in a variety of situations, such as to recharge batteries, charge your cell phone, iPods, etc. Portable and flexible solar panels are now being manufactured inside jackets and backpacks. For the adventurer, this thin-film technology allows you to easily document your travels like never before. You will not longer need to carry heavy and bulky batteries.

5. Durable: Because these rolled panels are an amorphous solid, you can depend on it for durability. There are not glass parts to these solar panels, so they will not break. They are temperature and weather tolerant, making them usable almost everywhere.

6. Can Be Used Almost Anywhere: Flexible solar panels or rolled solar panels can be carried and used practically anywhere, even in the middle of the ocean. Many extreme sea kayakers were able to use the thin-fim technology to document their journey. For those who aren’t extreme kayakers and hikers, we can take the thin-film technology and use it in a similar way. If you are going camping or heading off to the lake, you can roll out the flexible and portable solar panels on the ground, or boat to power your equipment.
