There seems little doubt that solar energy is the energy of the future. So what exactly are the pros and cons of solar energy and why should we plan to use it.
We will all be using renewable solar power in the future and in a way we always have been. The oil we use today has been produced thanks to the energy from the sun allowing plants to grow millions of years ago. Over millions of years the vegetation was converted into the oil we use today.
We are now starting to see a time when the oil is all used up and our growing realization that our current energy use is destroying the environment we need to survive on this planet. Now we are looking to short circuit the process of converting the suns energy into electricity and bypass the need for oil by making use of solar energy collection panels.
Solar energy is clean and free and it doesn’t pollute the air or our drinking water. There is no cost for solar power except the cost of the equipment you need to collect it. A correctly installed solar system is almost maintenance free once it is set up.
There are some disadvantages to solar power and we should consider them before making a decision about it? The cost of equipping a home with enough solar panels to supply all there needs can be expensive and this is a big disadvantage with solar panels. You can buy a diy solar panel kit which makes it more economically viable. Solar panels work best in hot sunny climates and they do not work at all at night so alternative energy supplies need to be available.
The basic problem with collecting solar energy is that photovoltaic panels are not terribly efficient at converting the suns energy into electricity. They do cost quite a large chunk of money when you purchase one. The cost of purchase and installation does take a few years to recoup from the savings on energy bills.
So there are some pros and cons of solar energy panels but there are few investments that can give you something for nothing and the benefits of solar energy panels are clear. After a few years the savings on energy costs will have paid for the cost of your solar panels and it’s all pure profit after that so the long term benefits are good for anyone who installs solar panels.
